Pontiac’s renaissance is in full swing for 2004, led by the new Grand Prix, the rear-wheel-drive, V-8-powered GTO and the V-8-powered Bonneville GXP.

Pontiac also introduces the 2005 G6 sports sedan in 2004. Offering exceptional interior and exterior refinement, sensuous styling and matching levels of performance, the G6 will be a worthy competitor in the midsize market.

“Pontiac is redefining ‘excitement,’ and this evolution is visible in our 2004 lineup,” said Lynn Myers, Pontiac-GMC general manager. “The emphasis is on clean, contemporary designs coupled with total performance – blending off-the-line power with superior ride and handling.”

The new Grand Prix embodies this direction, with a sleek exterior shape, responsive handling and stirring horsepower that set the standard for performance sedans. The all-new GTO, with a 350-horsepower (254-kw) LS1 V-8, appeals to every driving enthusiast who wants to take a longer, more twisty route home. And the Bonneville GXP, with its V-8 engine, enhanced handling and smoother appearance, satisfies the driver who wants to mix serious performance with full-size luxury touring.

All models in Pontiac’s lineup benefit from its renewed spirit of performance:

Grand Prix
Grand Prix has delivered performance and handling for the past 40 years, and the 2004 model is one of the best handling models yet. Grand Prix comes with fresh, clean styling based on a wedge design that makes this sleek sedan look like a coupe at first glance, and offers a GTP with a supercharged 3.8L V-6 that muscles up 260 hp (186 kw) – enough to quicken the pulse of any true enthusiast. The new Competition Group Package (Comp G), optional on the GTP model, includes StabiliTrak, TAPshift and other chassis refinements for fast, flat cornering. The Grand Prix GTP with Comp G bested 17 other comparably equipped front-wheel drive sedans, including the BMW 330i, the Audi A6 and the Jaguar S-type in head-to-head competitive tests sanctioned by the SCCA.

GTO
The completely new GTO isn’t just about horsepower. This modern-day muscle car offers a combination of features that make it an all-around performer in acceleration, handling, braking and driver fun. The heart of the GTO is the 5.7L LS1 V-8 engine, which produces 350 hp (254 kw) at 5200 rpm, and with 360 lb.-ft. (488 Nm) of torque. A four-speed automatic transmission is standard, and a six-speed manual is available. The GTO will hit 60 mph (97 km/h) in about five-and-a-half seconds, and run the quarter-mile in under 14 seconds. This is the best GTO ever.

Bonneville
Reintroduced to V-8 power for the first time since 1986, the new 2004 Bonneville GXP launches a series of high-performance Pontiacs designed to race the pulse and thrill the senses. Integrating the smooth, sensuous curves of the exterior with a 275-horsepower (205 kw) V-8 engine, improved handling dynamics and refined interior comfort, the GXP was designed and engineered to fuse performance, functionality and luxury into a premium touring sedan that is distinctly Pontiac.

Vibe
The 2004 Vibe could be a sports car, a sport hatchback or a mini SUV-crossover. It is so versatile it has fast become one of today’s most sought-after small cars. Vibe’s interior roominess and flexible seating configurations take the best aspects of all the categories and combines them with surprising performance to invent its own segment. The base Vibe gets a performance boost from a newly available SPO (GM Service and Parts Operations) supercharger kit that delivers 7.5 pounds of boost and an approximately 35-percent increase in horsepower and torque. The available sport appearance package includes front and rear fascia extensions, side skirts and spoilers in three colors or in primer to be painted to match any color.

Aztek
The Aztek Rally Edition leads the Aztek lineup into 2004. Outfitted in Fusion Orange Metallic paint, the high-visibility, high-value Aztek Rally adds spice to the lineup with a lowered front suspension, 17-inch aluminum wheels finished in chrome, a front grille that matches the body color, a chrome-plated exhaust tip and exterior Rally badges. The special package also comes standard with embroidered front floor mats and includes a power driver's seat. Embroidered leather-appointed seats are available.

Grand Am
The 2004 Grand Am features sporty exterior styling and solid powertrains that make the SE and GT models some of the best value-driven performers on the market. The available SC/T package increases the excitement factor. A comprehensive array of comfort, safety and convenience features are either standard or available, including XM Satellite Radio (continental U.S. only) as an option on all models except the base SE.

Montana
Safety and versatility continue to be key ingredients in the successful Montana formula for 2004, including the Versatrak all-wheel-drive system available on all models. In addition, Pontiac realizes that consumers need many configurations when picking the right minivan for their family. Free-flow ordering allows customers to choose the features that are important to them, such as the new CD/MP3 audio system.

Sunfire
The 2004 Pontiac Sunfire carries on the tradition of a sporty, aerodynamic design and a strong Ecotec 4-cylinder engine that delivers both performance and fuel economy. Sunfire’s crisp exterior lines, extending well up into the hood, fully complement the Pontiac-trademark “cat-eye” headlamps and integrated turn signals. Inset fog lamps and a split grille further accentuate the coupe’s sporty looks and highlight Pontiac’s heritage of excitement and performance.
